I had read that Jerry Goldsmith would be returning to his moderist style for the film Hollow Man and I was rather excited when I heard it. And this score is indeed scored in modern dissonant style, unfortunately there is one big problem that not even modern writing can fix: this score is dull. I think that if Jerry's going to compose a score for an action movie then the score itself could be a little more exciting. Unfortunately the serial style of this soundtrack is slow and meandering. It begins to pick up in a few areas, but the excitement never really holds on. Also, the soft tonal sections are much less memorable than those in say, Alien or Poltergeist, which are both very good.
To be straight and to the point, I think that you should pick up other recent Goldsmith efforts, this is just a little boring to recommend to anyone other than hardcore Goldsmith fans (though I know that there are a lot out there). A few dollars on other recent Goldsmith scores such as The 13th Warrior or The Haunting will give you more bang for your buck, as wells as the other older scores previously mentioned.
